ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED
MISS VIOLA WILSON—MR. F. TAIT
Two theatrical people well known to Aucklanders. Mis* Viola Wilson, leading soprano in the • C. Williamson Gilbert and Sullivan < ompanv, now visiting Auckland, and Mr. Frank Tait, managing director of ,1. Williamson, Ltd.. and J. and X. Tait. Ltd., have announced their engagement. Miss Wilson and Mr. Tait arrived in Auckland on Saturdav.
Mr. Tait said this morning that plans for their wedding could not be decided upon yet owing to Miss Wilson's engagement with the company. A tour of Australia was to be undertaken after their Auckland visit and that would take some time, as the companv had so far played in only Sydney and Melbourne. As Miss WiUon was the leading' soprano in the company it would he very difficult to replace her. Mr. Tait said. It had not yet been decided whether Mi~~ Wilson would continue with her career alter her marriage he added.
Miss Wilson and Mr. Tait met for 11m first time in Melbourne about a year ago. when the former arrived from England. having secured a contract with the company from Mr. Tait's brother. Mr. Mervin Tait.
Born in PaMoy. Scotland Miss Wilson was a meni-bcr of the Royal Carl Rosa Orand Opera Company until she joined tile DOyly Carte Company and went to America last year. She "has been fond of music all Iter life and ivar- a 'piano student before she hcran her career as a linger. She enjoys plavin<r <r,,lf an( ] tennis.
Mr. lait has been well known in theatrical circlets in Australia and Vow Zealand for many years. His home is in Melbourne and lie expects to continue living there after l»is marriage.
