GIANT WARSHIP.
COMMISSION IN AMERICA. XEW YORK, April 11. Completed five months ahead of schedule the mighty United States battleship North Carolina was commissioned at Brooklyn Navy aid. Ihe North Carolina is described as the world's deadliest warship.
It is estimated mat slit can shoot farther, faster and harder than any other battleship afloat. A vessel of rs.> ; ooo tons she has nine liiin guns and can throw in tons of shells a. minute at a target 20 miles distant.
The North Carolina is the first of six :i."),000-toil battleships being built in the United States. The first two, the North Carolina and the Washington, are part of the 1930 programme. The North Carolina was laid 'down at the New \oik Navy Yard in October, 1037, and was not expected to be completed until late tiiis year. She was estimated to cost over 04.000,000 dollars. In addition to her IGin guns she carries 12 f>in guns and eight .tin antiaircraft amis. Her designed speed is 28 knots. Her sitter-ship, the Washington, was reported recently to be ncai ing completion.
