"STOPPER" REMOVED.
U.S. Ships Can Go To Suez Area. CARGOES FOR NEUTRAL EGYPT. United Press Association.—Copyright. (Reed. 5.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, April 11. Maritime Commission officials explained to-day that trade routes from New \ork to the Red Sea area would make it possible to send more than 20 ships monthly to Suez without diverting vessels from present trade routes. In Washington President Roosevelt told pressmen that lie had taken the •stopper" from the mouth of the Red Sea waterway, so that American vessels may go all the way to the Suez Canal, sincc Egypt is neutral territory. While American vessels are not permitted under the Neutrality Act to carry war supplies to belligerent® the President made it clear that cargoes destined for a neutral country. Egvpt. for instance, could be carried to Suez He indicated that there will be no tendency on the Government's part to explore the question of whether supplies consigned to a neutral might ultimately get to a belligerent.
