REWARD FOR SERVICE TO N.Z. CRICKET
THE election of Mr. A. H. Allen, Mayor of Dunedin, as president of the New Zealand Cricket Council is a tribute to the work of a man who placed liis business ability at the disposal of tlie pame just because he liked cricket. Mr. Allen Had 110 notable playing record behind him, nor had he even a long association with cricket administration; but, in view of what he has indirectly done for the frame in New Zealand by his ctforts on l>ehalf of the Otajro Association, lie well deserves the honour that has been conferred upon
Financial difficulties hampered Otago for many years, and if the association is not even yet in a flourishing condition, its finances are at least sound. What would have happened if Mr. Allen had not come to the rescuc and organised tho financial side of the game in the province is the basis upon which the value of Mr. Aliens services must be judged. Mr. Allen has also played the leading part in making cricket an Otago rather than a Dunedin game. He lias consistently striven to foster interchanges of matches that have tended to create a better spirit in cricket throughout the province.
