Helping the juniors in order to permit of promising players being given senior status, three of the older North Shore members had their reward in a successful season, in which the club was runner-up to Papatoetoe for the senior B championship. 11. Rankin, who aggregated 00(5 runs, is the only batsman in the grade known to top (jOO runs for the summer. His average was '27A for 23 innings, once not out. He was second in Shore averages to \Y. Balmain, whose 34 average resulted from a dozen knocks, once not out. Tom Smith and Dick C'oates. two fastish bowlers, "scalped" ">S and 04 victims, Smith having a fractional better average with ll.nl to C'oates' 11.03. Three of the 17-ye'ar-old brigade to top ;*>oo runs were 11. B. Jones (Pon-sonby-Balmoral), the Brabin Cup skipper, whose •">(>- for the club as opening batsman gave him an average of 33, and the two Papatoetoe lads L. \Y. Deas onO (average 30.'>.')) and P. Elliott 529 (20.30). Top of the Papatoetoe averages was F. C. J'.dney, who scored 293 runs at an average of 32..">.

Murray was always a helpful skipper to the five young lefthanders who came from the secondary schools to his charge.
