LARGE SUM RAISED.
HOME OP COMPASSION FAIR. The splendid sum of £460 towards the upkeep of the St. Vincent's Home of Compassion, Heme Bay, was obtained as the result of a garden fete held at the home on Saturday afternoon. There was an excellent attendance, the public showing great interest in the comparatively new buildings and in the 40 babies at present in the home. Smooth green lawns and flower beds testified to the progress made since last year, when the function, which is an annual one, was held not long after the new home had been opened, and the grounds were bare and uncultivated. In a short address, Bishop Liston, who attended the fete, thanked those who Had helped to arrange the function. The stalls were in the charge of members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and bv ladies of the different parishes. The visitors were received bv Mrs. Bremner president of the ladies* section of the' society, and by the sisters of the home Music by the Ponsonby Boys' Band was enjoyed at intervals throughout the afternoon.
