THE DEATH PENALTY?

(By Telegraph—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. "Is it the intention of the Government to abolish the death penalty for treason?" asked Mr. Broadfoot (Nat., Waitomo) in a notice of question to the Minister of Justice in the House of Representative* yesterday. In a note to his question, Mr. Broadfoot said the Chief Justice had stated iu the Court of Appeal recently that death was the penalty for a particular act which might constitute treason, $nd it was just as well that people should know the serious nature of offences under the War Regulations.
