AUCKLAND'S LEAD.
MILK DISTRIBUTION.
INTEREST IN UNITED STATES.
The keen interest taken in the United States and Canada in Auckland's method of milk distribution was expressed to-day by Mr. 11. Rronson Cowan, senior agricultural economist, Division of Marketing and Transportation Research. Hureau of Agricultural Keonomics of the Cnited Static Department of Agriculture. Washington, in a brief address to the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Council. Mr. Cowan is making his second visit to the city.
He stated to-day that the first investigations made into milk di.-tributiou had eauscd considerable interest in the Lnited States, where similar problem*, existed. It was felt there that something further had to be done. Paper containers were being used extensively, and there was an agitation for lower prices where more milk was taken bv the consumer. Furthermore, there was a large swing to evaporated milk, and as a result of this in Chicago alone 2.VMI employees on milk delivery wagons had iost their jobs.
Mr. Cowan said that the milk control boards in the Cnited States had brought order out of chaos, stabilised prices and reduced costs of distribution. 'In fact, we have reached the point where we can follow your lead in zoniiiL'. blocking out and saving mileage," lie added.
