GOOD WISHES.
MAYOR AND CONSUL.
ACTION OF YUGOSLAVIA.
Mutual good wishes were expressed when the Consul for the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, Mr. J. M. Totich, visited the Town Hall this morning and was received by the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis.
"I felt it an honour, on behalf of the citizens, to invite you to call on me at the Town Hall, and it alTords me very great pleasure to tender to you the good wishes anil appreciation of the citizens of Auckland on the action taken by your country, particularly so because of the brave front shown to our great and ruthless enemv." said Sir Frnest.
"The citizens. I know, have lately been exercised in their minds over your country. because so manv of your countrymen are resident in Auckland, and the Auckland province. We felt they might be forced to become unwilling participants in the situation that has lveen created, and our sympathies were with you all.'' Sir Frnest added that particularly did the citizens appreciate Yugoslavia's action, because of the operations of our troops. It brought it home to them to think that Yugoslavia would lie allied with (I'reece. "It is my great pleasure to tell you that the city will be honoured to have your flag attached to that of our great Ally. Creeee. in the Town Hall,'' concluded Sir Frnest.
Mr. Totich said that he very much appreciated the good wishes on behalf of his people in New Zealand. They numliered between ."iOOO and IiOOO. and the majority were in the Auckland province. His country had had a very difficult time, but they had always felt that they were allied to democracy. When the news came through thev feit very happy, and were again able to raise their heads. What he had expected had come about. They were now allied with Croat Britain, and he was very grateful to the people of New Zealand for their goodwill and for the sympathy which had been expressed. Personally he felt very proud of his people and his nation.
.Mr. Totich added that already a number of his countrymen had enlisted with the Xew Zealand forees.
