COTTON TEXTILES.
EXPORTS BY BRITAIN. QUESTION OF RESTRICTIONS. (I'.A.) WRLLINT; TDK, I'riday. Hecently the British Trade CommisfiionevV ollice in Wellington has received a number of inquiries from importers quoting advice received from their principals in the I'nited Kingdom to the effect that the export of cotton textiles has e.ither been prohibited or made the subject of restriction. In a letter to the Chamber of Commerce, the t'nitcd Kingdom Trade Commissioner, Mr. I>. I'oiilter, states that lie had received a tele.gram from Lofidoll admitting that some restriction in the export, of cotton textiles may be necersfary in vi< w of the shipping position in regard to raw cotton, but, it. wan hoped the United Kingdom industry would be able to meet the essential requirements of New Zealand, and methods providing for these requirement k were, at present under consideration. 1 n any ca«e, it was
not, desired that New Zealand should seek other of supply if this could be avoided.
]\e.irarclinjr rayon manufactures, the level of ]!M0 exports from the I'nited Kingdom would probably be maintained, while the present supply of manufactures of wool wan pood.
