INTOXICATED DRIVER. FINE IN SECOND CASE. (0.C.) GISBORXE, this day. Admitting that he was intoxicated while in charge of a car in Wairoa Christie Hawkins, 26, a Maori labourer wae sentenced by justices of the peace in the Wairoa Court to a month's imprisonment, and was disqualified from driving for another year. The police eaid a traffic inspector had followed the accused across the traffic bridge into Mahia Avenue at a speed of 30 miles an hour. The accused did not reduce speed when approaching the intersections and when he reached Mahia Avenue he increased speed to approximately 50 miles an hour. In addition to a dangerous speed, he also drove on the incorrect *ide. Accused was brought to the police station and a doctor certified that he was not fit to drive. Peter Gemmel, 39, a Maori labourer, appeared on a charge of having been found in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor truck in Marine Parade. He was convicted and fined £lo and costs, hie driving license wae cancelled and he was prohibited from obtaining another for twelve months.
