AGA KHAN'S HORSES
"MONEY IS SCARCE. ,, BAHRAM BUYER UNKNOWN. (0.C.) LONDON, Nov. 6. The Aga Khan, who is popularly reputed to be one of the world's richest men, this week in, Switzerland revealed why he has sold his two Derby winners, Bahram and Mahmoud, to America.
"Money ir- so soorce that It was unavoidable,' he said. "I was heartbroken when I had to part with Bahram. He was worth hundreds of thousands of pounds in normal times, but I sold him for £40.000.
"I still do not oven know who the purchaser was, as the negotiations were conducted by my secretary in Ireland. I shall still keep about a hundred horses in Ireland. When the war is over racehorses will be as valuable as ever in all countries."
The Aga Khan knowe nothing of the fate of his rich stables and its staff in Brittany. He said that he is rigorously observing his promise to the Swiss Government that he will refrain from political activity while he is in Switzerland.
