NEWMARKET SUB-CENTRE
_ lhc Newmarket sub-centre of the Bed Cross held their final meeting at the Municipal Chambers this week. The president, Mrs. J. J. Sullivan, expressed appreciation of the co-operation of the committee and thanked members of the knitting and sewing circles for their efforts. In addition to parcels cent during the year, 400 knitted articles for sick and wounded had been forwarded this week for dispatch overseas.
In June of this year pyjamas, socks, bed-jackets, slippers and cigarettes had been dispatched to the* Emergency Hospitals at Ellerslie and Epsom Training College. Cases of clothing had also been forwarded for refugees overseas. During the year classes in iirst aid, liome nursing, hygiene and sanitation and motor mechanics liad bec.il held at the Municipal Ilall. A strong V.A.D. group with their own equipment had been in training ready to render aid in any emergency.
Thanks were given to the Mayor and councillors of Newmarket for their assistance in the. use of the Municipal Hall and council chambers; also to the Newmarket Business Men\* Association for generous support during the year. The various organisations and members who had contributed to and taken over the Ked Cross shop on various Fridays were also thanked.
