WHAKATANE PRESENTATIONS. (0.C.) WHAKATANE, this day. Several presentations to Mr. Alan Stewart, B.Ag.Sc., who gained one of the two Rhodes Scholarships awarded this year, were made at the Whakatane School grounds yesterday. Mr. Stewart, who i« a son of Mr. and Mrs. K. Stewart, of Hillcrest, attended the Whakatane School for four years. Mr. ('. (_'. Southey, the headmaster, congratulated Mr. Stewart upon his swvens. while the Rev. S. (I. Cauldon, chairman of the school committee, al/»o expressed the school'* pride in Mr. Stcwart's achievements. The Mayor, Mr. B. S. Barry, voiced the -borough's congratulations and hopes for Mr. Stewart's continued suecees. Mr. Barry made presentations on behalf of the Borouuh Council and Patriotic Committee and presentations were also made by past and present pupils. Mr. Stewart is to rejiort to H.M.S. Philomel at the Auckland naval base on Wednesday, and it is understood that he will proceed to England for training for a commission in the Royal Navy.
