DRESS ALLOWANCE.
NURSES FOR OVERSEAS SERVICE.
That the allowance for uniforms and other equipment made hy the Government to iimv-injr sisters selected for oversea* service wan totally inadequate, was mentioned at a meeting of the Waikato Hospital hoard to-day by Mr. T. l'evnidds. who said that this information had been conveyed to him.
The chairman. Mr. F. Fimllay. paid the allowance was £40, and the minimum re.|iiirementis cost over £•><•. hikl did not include such articles as a travelling rnjr and linderclotliinir. One nurne wa»s in 'jreat <li~tieris because she liad to ho! r<nv money. On the advice of a friend she communicated with the matron in-chief in Wellington setting out her position. She received the following telegraphed reply:—"Von cannot proceed overseas unless you can temporarily outfit yourself. State position."'
Mr. Findlav said he bad telephoned the Prime Minister, and had put the facts 'before him. Mr. Fracser *aid he was not aware of the position, but he promised to look into it. and if there was a grievance be would see that it was put right. No further advice had been received.
No resolution was passed, the clinirman expressing the wish that the Pres*! would give the matter publicity.
