UNIT INSPECTED.
N.Z. COASTGUARD SERVICE. Major-fieneral R. Young, C.8., C.M.0., D.5.0., commander of the Home Guard, inspected 100 officers and men of the New Zealand Coastguard Service at their headquarters last night. After complimenting the division on its smart turn-out, jor-Gcneral Young said the question of n;aking use of the Coastguard Service would be taken up with the naval authorities. The announcement was made last night that a fast launch for the use of the service had been purchased, which gives the Coastguard Service a flotilla of four launches, two of which it owns, on the Waiten ata. The new craft is the Meteor, a 30ft express day-cruiser, capable of a speed of over 35 knots provided by a 225 horse-power engine. It was also announced that a donation of £100 had been received from Mr. William Coodfellovv.
