MILK ZONING PLAN.
ASHBURTON PROTEST.
ASHBURTOX, Friday.
When hundreds of consumers refused to take delivery of milk under the zoning scheme which began on Tuesday morning, the milkmen met and decided to return to their old rounds next day. The public relented being oompulsorily zoned and milkmen were turned away when they approached homes of their new customers.
The public rejection of the scheme was notified to Wellington and an officer of the Department of Health came to Ashburton on Wednesday. Ho met the milkmen and was plainly told the plan was all right on paper, but unworkable in practice, and the public resented being dictated to. The officer is to make a report to the Government.
A public meeting of protest last night decided to send telegrams to the Government stating the town's disapproval of the system. The meeting also protested against the proposed shop and office hours legislation.— ('Press Assn.)
