NEW AWARD ISSUED. A new award for tailors in the Northern Industrial District, to operate from Monday for one year, has been issued by the Court of Arbitration. Conditions and hours are much as in the old award, providing for a five-day week of 40 hours. Wages of weekly hands are raised to £5 2/6 per week and of pieceworkers to 1 /Si per hour, with the former conditions as to overtime. These rates are subject to the general order of the Court of August 9, granting a 5 per cent cost of living bonus.
In a memorandum to the award the statement is made that Mr. Monteith disagreed on the wage*, favouring an increase to £5 5/. and Mr. Prime dissented on the interpretation, holding that a distinction should be made between the personal garment made by a tailor and the mass-produced article made in a factorv.
