WAIPAWA SEAT.
NATIONAL PARTY ASPIRANTS. NAPIER, this day. It its likely that the Waipawa branch of the National party, when it me.ets 011 October 15, will have at least half a dozen names from which to ehoo»c in selecting the party's candidate to contest the Waipawa by-election. It is now considered certain that Mr. J. D. Ormond, though he did not leave signed nomination papers when lie "went to England with the Second Echelon, will be among those put forward for nomination. Mr. Ormond contested the seat at the gene- ■ ral elections in 1931 and 1935. ; Mr. C. G. E. Harker, a Waipawa bar- ' rteter and chairman of the Waipawa ! branch of the National party, has also • been mentioned, and it is likely that I others whose names will have to be ' considered will include Mr. Robert Tap--1 per, of Havclock North, well known as a » National party oflicial in the electorate and in U.S.A. affairs; Mr. David Eddy, ' sheepfarmer, who has considerable local body service, especially in the adminis- * tration of hospital affairs and land con- " trol; Mr. W. Tucker, llawke's Bay f county councillor (who unsuccessfully ' contested the. seat as a Reform candidate against Mr. Jull in the bv-clection following the death of Sir George Hunter in 1930); and Mr. G. Forbes McHardy, a member of the Patangata County Council and head of one of the pioneer families of Hawke's Bay province. i
