MR. SEMPLE'S FINANCES.
"WOT A CENT INVESTED."
WELLINGTON, Tuesday.
A persistent rumour that he was building a £50,000 block of flats in Sydney was repudiated to-day by the Minister of National Service, the Hon. R. Semple.
"Beyond my home in Wellington," said Mr. Semple. "I have not a cent invested anywhere in the world; I do not own sufficient wood in' Australia to build a mousetrap, let alone a block of flate, and if you can find a philanthropist who will pay off the mortgage , 'on my house, lead me to him."
Questions regarding hie overseas investments had been addressed to him eo often, said the Minteter, that he thought it advisable to make a public declaration me to the state of his purse, _,_" .
