UNSETTLED VALUES.
EFFECTS OF THE WAR.
TWO AUCKLAND BOROUGHS.
Due partly to unsettlement of valors in consequence of the war, and.partly to the need of departmental and municipal economy, only two boroughs in the Auckland province—Otahuhu and Matamata—will be revalued this year. As a result of the curtailment of field work, the Valuation Department will experience probably its quietest period for many years. " The lull follows a series of exceptionally busy years in which the assessments of nearly all ■boroughs, counties and town districts have been revised.
It is expected that the revision of Otahuhu borough will be commenced about the middle of the present month, and will be completed during the summer. The number of properties affected is 1550, and the rateable capital value involved is around £1,500,000. Although it is ten years since the last revision of Otahuhu, and large numbers of houses and other buildings have been erected in the meantime, the valuation figures have been kept fairly well abreast of developments by the annual addition of the building figures. \o great change in the total is therefore anticipated.
At Matamata, 500 properties will be subject to revision, the work to be "in immediately. The most important changes will be thos« resulting from the extension of business on various streets 'Some re shuffling is also likely due to the effects of district progress. "
