RACE FASHIONS.
SPRING SUITS. AVONDALE MEETING. Blue skies and sunshine attracted a large number of enthusiasts to Avondale racecourse to-day, when the Avondale Jockey Club opened their spring meeting. The feeling of spring in the air gave a decided brightness to the atmosphere, and it was reflected in the frocking of the women.
Many new shades were seen, and bright accessories were popular. Trim tweed suits in vivid colours were worn by many of the women, and checks of all types were to be seen. Some favoured the bold colours and others the. small neat patterns in brown and white and black and white. With a number of these checked jackets plain skirts were worn. Wide-brimmed felt hats with contrasting bands to match the accessories were worn with most of the suits, and sweaters in gay colours were popular. One attractive suit was in brown and gorse, with jumper and accessories in gorse
Jumper suits topped by swagger coats were also noticeable, and were seen in such colours as amethyst, sedge green and all shades of blue. A striking combination was in amethyst and blue checks.
Princess coats and redingotes worn with soft lightweight frocks had many adherents, and here hats were allowed to be more frivolous. Many were little more than a bunch of flowers worn well torward on the head and fluttering a veil carelessly, while those with brims often had tiny spiral veils. Turbans and toques were again very popular, and the pillbox was also seen in a number of iSnjart ensembles. Most of these combinations were in charming pastel shades.
