"AMAZON CAVALRY."
A DARTMOOR PATROL. (By Air Mail.) LONDON, Aug. 14. Twenty women in the Yelvertori district of Devon patrol Dartmoor on horseback to look out for parachutists and suspicious characters. They work in close co-operation with the local military authorities and their chief, duty is to relieve the Home Guard during the daytime. When the Home Guard come off duty at R a.m. the "Amazon cavalry" take over and patrol till -9 p.m. Mrs. P., Fimms, who is commandant of the patrol, said this week that the possible expansion of their force is restricted by a lack of horses. "The war has prevented people from keeping up * their stables," she said. All the members of the patrol are experienced riders and have an extensive knowledge of Dartmoor. The patrol's only badge is a plain white armlet. The youngest member is 16 and the oldest 60.
