Much Activity Over Wide Area In Britain. United Press Association. —Copyright. (Reed. 1 p.m.) LONDOX, Aug. 29. The Air Ministry announced that the Royal Air Force this afteraoon dispersed numerous raiders approaching the Kent coast. A small number penetrated inland, but the attack was not pressed home. Haiders were active In the evening in the tame area and fighters broke up formations and pursued the raiders seaward. Fightere so far have destroyed eight raiders and anti-aircraft guns one. Three British fighters have been lost. Gunfire could Jbe heard in the London area to-night. Searchlights were active. Raiders are believed to have been over the suburbs.

Air raiders appeared over another eouth-weet town, also over the Midlands and the north-east of England.

Nearly 200 German 'planes came over the south-east in waves this afternoon at a great height and penetrated inland, but fled without bombing when British fighters engaged them. Air raiders ' appeared over two Welsh towne in the afternoon.

London Transport Board has decided that buses will continue running during air raids and warnings and will halt only if danger is imminent.

In the Midland town which had the longest raid since the outbreak of war, enemy 'planes dropped 20 bombs in quick succession a few miles- north of the town. The 'planes later returned and dropped 50 more bombs. Spitfires chased the raiders aw^.y.

, High explosives fell a four towne in the south-eastern ar-ea. A fire was hiarted in one dietri *~ but was soon extinguished.

A south-western town had a long raid. 'Planes passed over the area all night long and heavy explosions were heard every quarter of an hour. There were no explosions in the town. Raiders were active over Wales. Gunfire was heard for several hour?. Houses were demolished in two districts. The raidere were so harassed by gunfire that they hurriedly dropped their bombs, which fell harmlessly on the foreshore. GERMAN CLAIMS. ATTACKS OVER BRITAIN. (Reed. 1.30 p.m.) LOXTDON", Aug. 29. A German communique states: "Our bombers yesterday attacked aerodromes at Eastehurch and Southend, and successfully raided the harbour of Bognor Regis. Stronger attacks last night were launched against the harbour of Liverpool and also Cardiff, Bristol, Middlesbrough, Chatham, Thameshaven and also armament centres in Sheffield, Norwich and Coventry. Air fights developed in several places. Thirtyeight British and 12 German 'planes were shot down."

The Berlin news agency stated that a German air armada carried out divebombing against Portsmouth this morning.
