VETERANS MEET.
SOUTH AFRICAN CAMPAIGN. Representatives from 17 branches attended the annual conference of the *It A £ rican War Veterans' Association pf New Zealand, which was held in Auckland yesterday. The delegates were welcomed on behalf of the Mayor by Mr. A. 8. Bailey, a member of the City Council, who wae accompanied by the town clerk, Mr. J Melling. During the day delegates visited Albert Park and a wreath of laurel and feouth African daisies wae placed on the South African Artillery Memorial by the retiring Dominion president, Mr. G N Creeswell, of Christchurch. One of the remite passed during the conference aeked the Government to renew the grant of £250 for the relief of distress among South African exeervicemen and another urged the Government to pay the South African grant of £13 a year in full to all veterans, and not to take it into consideration when assessing income to reduce the age benefit payable under the social security scheme. Mr. A. G. Bertram, of Auckland, was elected president for the ensuing year.
