WANGANUI GUINEAS

SEVENTEEN REMAIN IN PROSPECTS OF SIR BEAU. HAS HAD GOOD PREPARATION. Seventeen three-year-olds remain in the Wanganui Guineas, the first classic of the season, but it is probable that several of these have been left in through an oversight on the part of their owners. However, the indications are that there will be a large field at Awapuni next week. Those still engaged include:—Enrich, Locrain, Beau Leon, Chary, Great Fire, Young Bill, Sir Beau, Beau Courier, Laughing Fox, Roeon, Uvedale, Courting, Rama Iti.

Last season's form would point to Sir Beau, Enrich, Chary, Beau Leon and Beau Courier as the most likely contestants, but Roeon has been credited with some very promising work at Hastings, and her form nt Now Plymouth this week-end will be watched with kocn interest in view of her classic engagement. Beau Leon ran well at Ellerslie last Saturday.

Wanganul track watchers, -however, are very hopeful as to Sir Beau'w prospects, n» this colt has got through a solid propa ration. Kir Beau was voted the best of last season's juveniles, and his chance of proving outstanding as a three-year-old looks bright. After racing at Awapuni Sir Beau will go north for the Avondale Guineas, arid then will race at Treutham and KiceYirton.

If Uvedale's form at x<-w Plymouth this week Iβ up to expectations the Leighon filly will fulfil her Guineas engagement. Baron Bold has been amiss, since racing at Trent hum in July, and he is not likely to race for some time.

Curtail is improving steadily, nn<l the half-brother to Smoke Screen should be Setting in his long strides to good effect at the finish of the Trial at Awapuni next week, but he will probably not be seen at his best until later on in the season.

Mr. J. Brooks, owner-trainer of Golden Pam, has put into work a full sister to that mare. .She is a four-year-old, and is much bigger and more solid looking thnii Golden Pam.

Amlgo is coming to hand nicely, and by Hie time the Wellington spring meeting comes round this gelding should be back to his best form. It is probable he will be given a run at Martin at the end of the month.
