HARBOUR CHARGES.
WAR SHIPPING DELAYS
A difficulty affecting importers that has become acute under war conditions is the frequent arrival of cargo without the relevant shipping documents. In many eases goods have had to be stored indefinitely on the wharves at Auckland pending the arrival of the documents. Under the Harbour Board regulations, says a statement by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, these goods incur heavy Harbour Board charges. The question was taken up last month by the chamber with the board, and a reply has been received intimating that, while the board was not prepared to vary its ordinary scheme of charges for storage, it was prepared to consider each case of hardship arising from this cause on its merits. The council of the chamber has decided to sQnd a letter of appreciation to the board.
