Toll Of Nazi 'Planes Since Heavy Raids Began. United Press Association.—Copyright. (Reed. 2 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 22. The total of German aeroplanes destroyed around the British coasts since the large scale .raids began on June 18 has -reached 1000 with the aeroplanes brought down in the German attack on a British convoy and .four more shot down during raids over. the British coast to-day, according, to . an Air Ministry communique, says a British official wireless message. German 'planes were over Wales tonight: A Spitfire brought down a raider'this afternoon.. One of the crew is dead and three are, interned. Three raiders are believed to have been shot down to-night in a fierce battle over the south-east coast of England. Antiaircraft guns elsewhere brought down another. The Berlin official news agency says German -bombers, operating in' the middle of England, attained good results south-east of Birmingham. They severely bombed motor works at Coventry, where fierce fires and detonations were observed. Several 'planes were destroyed on the ground , at Leamington. At Manby barracks were hit and munitions blown up.

FURTHER AID POR BRITAIN.

(Reed. 11 a.m.) RUGBY, Aug. 22. British trade unions have lent over £",500,000, free of interest, to the Government since July 5. Britain has gratefully acknowledged the latest contribution of £7500 from Tanganyika towards the cost of the war. The Falkland Islands Company, incorporated by the Royal Charter of 1851, has decided to make a loan of £20,000 to Britain free of interest in appreciation of its long and pleasant relationship with the Crown since the Charter was granted.

(Reed. ll*a.m.) ZURICH, Aug. 22. A message from Copenhagen says a new political party has been formed in Denmark under German protection, known as the National party. Ite programme will be the immediate introduction of the National Socialist (Naai) system.
