GERMAN ATTACKS.
No Bombs Dropped On Land Yesterday. . United I'reae Association.—Copyright. (Reed, noon.) LONDON, Aug. 22. It is officially stated that enemy air attacks last night were on a very small scale. High explosives fell at two points in south-east England, where some damage was caused to gas and water mains. A coastal town railway line, further inland, was temporarily obstructed. A" British official wireless message saye the Air Ministry and Ministry of Home Security report that during the night a bomb fell on a hillside in southeast Scotland, slightly wounding one soldier. As far as is known at present this is the only casualty during the night. - 1 The Royal Air Force shot down four 'planes to-day when a email number, of enemy machines, most of which operated singly, crossed the coast, says an official announcement. None penetrated more than a few milee. No bombs fell on land. Two British fighters were lost, but one pilot is safe. A German communique states: "During air reconnaissancee over Britain' on Wednesday, numerous industrial plants, harbours, railway lines and. Id aerodromes were attacked with, good results. "Hits by bombs were observed on industrial plants at Skegness, Great Yarmouth, Whitby, Coventry and Bournemouth, and also harbour installations at Bridlington. A docked ship was bombed at Southampton and also the dockyard. "A merchantman was badly damaged by bombs during an attack on a convoy off the east coast of England. At night our bombera effectively attacked aeroplane factories south-east of London, in addition to an armament factory near Brighton. "The enemy dropped bombs on the night of August 21-22 in north Germany and caused negligible damage. The enemy yesterday lost seven 'planes. Six of ours ai'e missing."
