EIRE EXEMPT.
FROM NAZI BLOCKADE. Special Arrangements May Be Made. (Reed. 11 a.m.) BERLIN, Aug. 18. The Foreign Office spokesman emphasised that the total blockade of Britain did not apply to Eire, for which there would be special beneficial arrangements. "We are awaiting for suggestions from Eire which may supply information daily concerning its harbours and the movements of its ships," the spokesman continued. Germane are releasing all Polish prisoners of war, of whom 90 per cent have accepted agricultural work in Germany. The remainder are working in trade and industry.
RAIN IN SYDNEY. BUT WATER PROBLEM ACUTE. (Reed. 11 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. Citizens in Sydney were greatly heartened by repeated showers in the week-end with a promise of a continuance to-morrow. Some rain 'has fallen in the metropolitan catchment area, but literally inches are .needed to avoid a water famine. The position has never been so serious. The City Council is using salt water drawn from the harbour to flush the streets.
