MEAT FOR EXPORT. DETAILS OF SLAUGHTERINGS. INCREASE OX LAST SEASON. From October 1, 1939, to August 3, 1840, the New- Zealand Meat Producers' Board reports atn increase of 1,948,202 in the production of freight carcases for export. The figure for the corresponding period last season wae 10,819,71)2, and for this season 12,767,994. Killings in the Xorth Island rose from 7,187,223 to 8,933,980, and in the South Island from 3,6.32,069 to 3,834,014. Lamb killings totalled 10,381,595, an increase of 630,092. I'iguree in the North Island were 5,308,198, and in the South Island 5,073,397. Wether mutton killings were: Xortih Island, 1,131,151, and South Island 175,706, a total of 1,306,857, showing a reduction of 139,038. Mutton production as a whole, however, was substantially in advance of the previous season, as the killings of ewes for export rose by 766.732. Xorth Island killings were 1.219,352, and South Island 700,210, a total of 1.919,562. Because all beef is exported as frozen under the Imperial purchase agreement, previous exports of chilled beef are grouped as frozen for comparative purposes. Beef killings (in quarters) show an increase of 285.172, the total 'being 687,058. Figures for the North Island were 672,515, and for the South Island 14.543. Killings of porkers (97,771 in the North Island and 3756 in the South Isjand, totalled 101,527, which is a drop of 252,490. However, the decline is more than made up by increased killings of the heavier weight baconers. In these North Island killings were 313,694, and South Island 11,773, a total of 325,737, or 139,069 above those of the previous season. When the production of pork of both classes is comipared on a weight basis this season's killings ehow an improvement to the extent of 11,392 freight carcases.
