FLYING ACCIDENT.
N.Z. MAN INJURED. SER6T. C. B. G. KNIGHT, D.F.M. FIRST TO BE DECORATED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The following casualty was announced this evening:— Sergeant C. B. G. Knight, D.F.M., Royal New Zealand Air Force, seriously injured in a flying accident. His mother is Mrs. K. E. Knight, Otago Street, Picton. Sergeant Knight was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal in February this year for gallantry and devotion to duty, being the first airman of the Royal New Zealand Air Force to receive a decoration. He is 28 years of age. [Formerly he was a corporal in the Nelson-Marlborough Mounted Rifles. He transferred to the Air Force in 1937. Previously he was employed with the Post and Telegraph Department at Seddon. In February, 1939, Sergeant Knight was sent to the United Kingdom as a wireless operator, being lent to the Air Ministry for employment with the Royal Air Force. The Distinguished Flying Medal was presented to Sergeant Knight by th? New Zealand. High Commissioner, Mr. W. J. Jordan, who congratulated him on his skill, courage and coolness in the face of the enemy and under intense fire.
