DROWNED IN CREEK.
EVIDENCE AT INQUEST. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) GISBOKSE, thie day. An inquest was held this morning before the acting-coroner, Mr. A. A. Fraeer, concerning the death of Mr. William Francis Butler, a la/bourer, aged 61, whose body was found in the Waikanae Creek yesterday morning. Evidence showed that Mr. Butler, who had poor sight, had apparently miseed the Grey Street bridge approach, and walked over the bank, dropping about 6ft. Dr. Angel said there were no marks of any kind on the body, hut the postmortem revealed that deceased had taken a quantity of liquor. Death was due to drowning. The jury returned a verdict in accordance with the medical teetimony, and added a rider that the local body responsible should remedy the bridge approaches, which would eliminate future accidents of thie kind.
