THEFT OF EGGS.
FROM MILITARY CAMP.
The authorities look upon this as a rather serious offence," said SeniorSergeant Joyce in the Police Court today when Daniel Brand, aged 37, pleaded guilty to the theft of four and a half dozen eggs, the property of the New Zealand Government.
Senior-Sergeant Joyce said accused had been employed as a cook at the Narrow Neck camp, and a quantity of stores had been missed. On Friday last in a suitcase belonging to accused were found eggs, which were valued at 9/9.
Mr. K. Aekins, appeared for accused, and said Brand was very frank about the matter when questioned, but he denied taking any goods other than the errgs-. It was a foolish act and counsel asked the Court not to impose imprisonment.
Mr. J. Morling, S.M., said the matter was not one to be treated lightly. However, he would not send accused to prison and imposed a fine of £5, a month being allowed in which t» pay.
