CLOSING OF MAIL.
DISAPPOINTMENT AT TIME.
COMMENT IN AUCKLAND.
Disappointment at the closing of the transtasman air mail to-morrow morning, before the arrival of the Pan-Ameri-can Clipper from California and Honolulu, was expressed to day in business circles in Auckland. It was stated that the value of the mail was somewhat diminished by the fact that it did not link up with that brought by the Clipper.
When this aspect was submitted to the chief postmaster, Mr. R. G. May, this afternoon he said that, owing to the time required for censorship of the correspondence, it was impossible to arrange for the mail to close after the Clipper's arrival. The Tasman flying boat was expected to leave at daybreak on Friday for Sydney and air mail from all parts of New Zealand must be cleared by the censor before that time. The postal authorities were able to guarantee the dispatch of letters posted by the announced time, and had to be in a position to cope with a substantial influex of late correspondence.
In the circumstances any correspondence with Australia resulting from the mail carried by the Clipper must be held for dispatch by the Tasman aircraft next week.
