TAKAPUNA CLUB.

ANNUAL PRIZE NIGHT.

POPUiAKITY OF THE Z CIiASS.

The annual presentation of prizes won during the season by members of the Takapuna Boating Club was held on Saturday evening in the clubhouse, Bayswater, in the presence of a big gathering. In the absence of the commodore, Mr. E W Fountain, who is with the Engineers' Company, at Trentham, the visitors were welcomed by Mr. Fred Thomas, vice-commodore. They included Captain H. H. Sergeant, patron of the club, Mr. W. B. Darlow, member 01 the Harbor Board, representing the northern ehore Mr. C. H. Palmer, chairman of the Yacht and Motor Boat Association, and the officers of city and Manukau clubs. Mr Thomas briefly reviewed the past season's activities and stated that racmg had been as keen as ever, especially in the club's 12ft 6in one-design class which, from a small beginning, had grown to very large numbers, being represented in every yachting centre in New Zealand and at Suva, where the "Takapunas" had established themselves as the most popular class. Mx. Thomas thanked aU who had assisted the ciub in any way and requested Mr. Darlow to present the prizes. Mr Darlow congratulated the officers and members of the club on its continued success and outlined the works in progress by the Harbour Board for the benefit of boating interests. Captain Sergeant added his congratulations and mentioned the good work the club had done by fostering the Z class.

Mr. Palmer said that by training the youths in the art of sailing In the Takapuna class, they were laying a good foundation as owners or crews of larger boats.

The following were the principal prizewinners :—Tawaki, Waddell and Fortzer Cups and four other prizes; Ranee. Derek Reid Cup. Blomneld Shield and two other prizes; Caress. Winstone trophy: Trevic Shield inter-club, won by Takapuna, G. Entrican skipper; Lyla, Waddell Senior Cup and three other prizes; Marjorie, Jubilee Cup; Muimai, Burnet Cup: Jeanette. Fountain Cup; Meola. Mills Cup; Robin. Mr. X. Marheson'e trophy ; Cheerio, Ma ho n Cup; B. Wilson, Whitehorn Cup for most improved skipper; Taotane, L class, club's regatta ; Muimai, Y class ; Marjorie, T and X class: Sonoma, S class; Jeanette. V class ; Koanui, Silver Fern class. Goodfellowship Inter-Club Cups: Takapuna v. Taniaki, won by Taniaki (W. A. Wilkinson, skipper) ; Takapuna v. Ponsonby, won by Ponsonby (J. J. Mnckay (skipper) ; Takapuna v. Manukau, won by Manukau (A. McLeod, skipper). Maesey-Thompson Cup for annual contest between Bayswater and Xorthcote, won by Bayswater team. Champion flags : V class, Jeanette; S class, Sonoma. After supper, dancing was continued till midnight.
