CHAMPIONSHIPS IN THE SOUTH (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH.—H. J. Brown, of New Plymouth, retained the West Coast (North Island) harrier championship on Saturday. K. Galloway, of Palmerston North, was second. F. Hill, of Marton, third, and G. Bills, of Wanganui. fourth. The A grade teams' race resulted : Wanganui A. 27 points. 1 ; Palmerston North. 32. 2 • New Plymouth. 42. S: Marton, r>2. 4. CHKISTCHURCH.—D. G. Squire, of the Timaru Club, decisively won the Canterbury cross-country championship over a 10,000 metres course at Cashmere in 39m ss. C. Johns (Timaru) was second and R. Moouey (Christchurch), third. A. H. Wayman (Methodist), last year's champion, from a had start, finished strongly for fifth place. Christchurch won the teams' event from Timaru, with Rover Scouts third DUNEDIN.—The Otago cross-countrv championships were held in ideal conditions at Wingatui on Saturday and resulted in a brilliant success for the Civic Service Club which took the senior and junior titles and the teams' race in both events. A. R. Geddes won the senior race from G. L Austin, with J. R. Hubber (Invereargillt third The title-holder. L. V. Dickinson, did not start. The junior race was won bv H Nelson, with L. K. White second and C' Mackeesey third.
