UNION ANSWERED.
LOADING OF VESSEL.
NOT WAT E R SIDERS' AFFAIR
Watersiders were not in a position to know the ins and outs of the shipping business, said the chairman of the Port of Auckland Shipping and Stevedores' Association. Captain R. S. Lewis, yesterday wliert commenting on allegations made by the president of the Auckland Watersiders' Union. Mr. T. Solomon, that there had been "muddling" ill connection with the loading of the overseas vessel that had to sail on Thursday leaving part of the cargo behind. The sailing of the vessel followed on the refusal of the men to work beyond midnight.
If the cargo had been transferred during loading operations it was the business of the shipping company and was for a good reason, said Captain Lewie. The men were paid to do it and it certainly was not done just to inconvenience the waterside workers.
