BACHELOR TAX.
(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The suggestion that the income tax exemption for single persons should be lowered from £200 to £130 was made by Mr. McC'ombs (Government, Lyttelton) in his speech in the Budget debate. That, he said, would mean an extra £" 10/ a year to the Government from people best able to bear it. It would be a form of bachelor tax. and had much to commend it.
