TOTAL OF £30,792.

PATRIOTIC RADIO APPEAL.

_At a meeting of the executive of the Sick and Wounded Appeal, held this morning, a reconciliation was tabled by the honorary organising secretary, Mr. L. W. Swan, showing the amount of promises in the radio appeal, and the amount actually in hand "to date. The total promised for the two evenings amounted to £31,578: of these, cash to date amounting to £30,137 had been received, while the proceeds for sale of sections, amounting to £6.">.' i, brousrht the total to £30,7f>2. After making allowance for one bogus set of promises amounting to £400. the difference between the amount received and promised amounted to £3S-j. Amounts were still being received daily, thus reducing the apparent shortage. "Furthermore,"' stated the secretary, "many amounts received since the radio appeal, and credited to general funds, reallv represented radio promises which had been collected by enthusiastic treasurers and eiedited to the funds of their queeu instead of to the main radio appeal."' The chairman, the Hon. Eliot Davis, gave his opinion that the results were very satisfactory indeed. Most of the executive committee had anticipated that many of the promises would fail to be redeemed as a result of overnight consideration. This definitely did not prove to be the case, as. apart from the one hoax referred to. the amount realised approximated very closelv the original promises.
