SPRING SONG.

(By Erica McNamara, 179, Ko. s Line, Wanganui.) I v© "tried to write a song of spring, While through the misty pane I gaze—and cannot 6ee a thing, But hail, and heavy rain. I've tried to write of whisp'rlng breeze, And warm and balmy air, But all the while I sit and (snooze, With rugs around my chair. I think Id better wait until, The winter really goes, A poet can't convey a thrill, While chilblains rack her toes. A speck of brown, it tried to hide. And dead thoughts clutter up my brain, Old thoughts, dead hopes that rouse new pain, And rapture never comes again, To urge my heart to song.
