LOGAN MEMORIAL.
A FUND INAUGURATED. ANNUAL RACE TO BE HELD. To commemorate the work for yachting in Auckland and elsewhere ot the late Mi. Arch. Logan, a fund is now being collected from his many admirers to provide a enp or other trophy. It will bo raced for and won outright annually by boats of the classes designed by Mr. Logan. Mr. Geo. M. Dennes, commodore of the Heine Bay Yacht Club, has the matter in hand and reports very successful responses to his request for funds, which so far total £50, including donations from Sir Ernest Davis, the Hon. Eliot Davis, Messrs. W. I'. and J. M. Wilson, W. Goodfellow, and others interested in the project. A cheque and covering letter lias been received from Mr. F. Albert, of Sydney, owner of tlie Logan-built keel yacht Rawhiti, which he states has won the Sydney harbour championship 17 times. Contributions have come, too. from the United States, while this week Mr. C'has. Petley, of The Mount, Tauranga, an old opponent of Mr. Logan in the days of the open boats, forwarded £4 3/6 collected by him at Tauranga. Mr. Dennes, who was approached by a number of admirers of the late Mr. Logan to carry out their wishes, hopes to reach a total of £200. This will provide a trophy each year, to be competed for on a "Logan Day," to be held in turn by all clubs interested. The race may be limited to Logan boats, but all such details will be decided by a committee of subscribers to the fund.
POINT CHEVALIER CLUB.
ANNUAL PRIZE NIGHT. The Point Che.valier Sailing Club held its twenty-first annual presentation of prizes in the clubhouse on Thursday evening in the presence of members and visitors. The commodore, Mr. A. G. McKeown, welcomed the guests, who included Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Darlow. Mr. M. J. Coyle and representatives of all but one of the 10-sl clirhs. The past season had been successful. except for the stormy day at the club s regatta, when several boats capsized. Tlie club had recognised the efTorts of several boat-owners, especially in the Z class, to pick up the capsized crews, and they had been awarded special prizes. Alrt-ady .-ix club members had joined the Navy, six went in the First Echelon, three were in the Air Force und nine were now in camp. The commodore thanked Mrs. Darlow for c>ncentlng to present the prizes after taking part earlier in the evening in the coronation ceremony.
Mr. M. J. Coyle (president), thanked Mr. McKeown. Mr. L. Richards (vicecommodore), Mr. R. Evans (re;ir-commo-dore ), Mr. W. 11. J. Oliver (hon. secretary), and Mr. J. Douclaa (hon. treasurer), for their good work on behalf of the club, and made special mention of the ladies' committee. The clubhouse and grounds, he said, were valued at £2000. and oul.v £ 200 remained unpaid. The following were the principal prize-winners:—-Caret's, points cup for season. Herdman Cup, class championship flag and thre<! other prizes; Malvina, five prizes; Norma, Dixieland Cup and two other prizes : Marene. Sir Ernest Davis" prize for ladles' race, sailed by Miss Pear! Oliver; Mawniti. Mr. A. G. Taylor's trophy : Valrosa, Kawhiti Cup; Tanya, class championship flag, Hon. Eliot Davis' trophy, Mr. G. Holdsworth's trophy and two other prizes; Zonda. Farmers' trophy and four other prizes: Silver Fern, Messrs. Hill and Plummer's trophy: To Kowliai, Messrs. John Burns and Company's trophy ; Valerie, class championship flag; Cheerio, Augustln trophy: Rhythm, Mr. J. deal's trophy; Limerick, class champion flag; Pat C„ three prizes; Ranee Mr. H. Ihbertson's trophy; Escapade. Spiers' Cup and Cain trophy; Mercedes, two prizes: Rebel, cla*s champion flag; Marjorie. two prizog; Gannet, two prizes: Clyde, two prizes: Riptide. Dlgnan Cup and Mr. W. J. Bell's trophy; Wahoo, Mr. G. Bell's trophy ; Alleen, hard luck trophy ; Celeste, Regatta trophy; and Awatea, the president's trophy.
Zonda. Waintua, Waltere and Tanco were presented with prizes for standing! by yachts in difficulties on rtcatta dav. The 10'iyds championship wns won by K Cattcrall.
