Mr. W. T. Anderton, M.P., returned from Wellington by train this morning. The Rev. W. Stent has been appointed Government representative on the Xew Zealand Poultry Board, according to a Gazette notice.

Mr. A. C. Rose, supervising grader of tho Dairy Division of the South Island, with headquarters in Christchurch, has retired from the Department after 33 years' service.

Sir Walter Stringer, chairman of the War Pensions Appeal Board, will leave by the Limited express to-night on hie way to Dunedin, where sittings of the board are to be held.

Captain C. X. Devery, D.C.M., New Zealand Temporary Staff, has been appointed Assistant Adjutant-General, Central Military District, and promoted to the rank of major.

Mr. H. S. J. Goodman, president of the management committee of the New Zealand Hockey Association, has been nominated as the firet life member of the association. Mr. Goodman hae been president of the association for 26 vears.

Dr. Allan Gunn, eon of Dr. and Mrs. R. M. Gunn, of Gisborne, who suffered serioik* concussion in a bomb explosion during the evacuation of the B.E.F. at Dunkirk, is recovering in an English hospital, according to advice received liv his parents.

31r. H. C. Holland, of the staff of Woolston Tanneries, Limited, Christchurch, who hae been carrying out chemical research work in En'gland for the past two years, hae been awarded the degree of doctor of philosophy bv the University of Leeds.

Mr. W. Calder Mackay has been elected to the council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce to fill the vacancy caused by the departure of Mr. H. W. Shove to take up the post of overseas commissioner in general charge of Y.M.C.A. work for the New Zealand Forces.
