SUGAR SUBSIDY.

"PROTECTIVE FOODS" FIRST

A motion j>assed at a general meeting held yesterday of members of the New Zealand Women's Food Value League (Incorporated) was as follows:—

"Thfe general meeting of memibere of the New Zealand Women's Food Value League protests' against the subsidy which the Minister of Marketing has recently contemplated j" litn ting to the Colonial Sugar Company in order that he price of sugar be maintained." It also β-trongly protests that the "essential protective" foods should be high in price whilst sugar, which is not only non-essential but positively harmful when eaten in excess a* in New Zealand, should receive a Government subsidy. In the interests of the public health the members of the New Zealand Women's Food Value League urge the Minister of Marketing to place a tax on sugar and uee this to subsidise "protective" foods.
