Section 52 of the : Hospital and Charitable Institutions Act 1926, and of all other powers and authorities enabling it in that behalf intends, on the 12th day of July. 1940, to make and levy the following Rates in respect of the Ciiy of Auckland for the year commencing on the Ist day of June, 1940, and ending on the 31st day of May, 1941 :— I—A General Rate of One Shilling and elevenpence (1/11) in the £. - —A Library Rate of One Penny One Farthing (lid) in the £. 3—A Hospital and Charitable Aid Rate of Sixpence Halfpenny (6id) in the £. Upon the annual rateable value of all property as appearing in the Valuation Roll for the time being in force in the Citv of Auckland. A Special Rate of One Shilling and serenpence (3/7) in the £ will also be collected In respect of Water Rates in the City of Auckland for the year commencing on the Ist day of June, 1940, and ending on the olst day of May, 1941 :— j I —ln respect of the ordinary supply of water within the meaning of the Waterworks By-laws of the City of Auckland : " Upon all lands and dwelling houses to which water is supplied whose annual Rateable Value, as appearing on the Valuation Roll , (a) Does not exceed Twelve Pounds Ten Shillings, a rate of Ten Shillings (b) Exceeds Twelve Pounds Ten Shillings, a rate of four and one-quarter per centum (4} per cent) on such value. Upon all buildings used for any purpose other fhnn dwelling houses whose Annual Rateable" Value, as appearing on the Valuation Roll in) Does not exceed Twelve Pounds Ten Shillings, a rate of Five Shillings (5/). (b) Exceeds Twelve Pounds Ten Shillings, a rate of two and one-eighth per centum (2 1-S per cent) on such value.
Provided that when the whole supply to such building is registered by meter the consumer shall in addition he required to pay any excess over onequarter of the annual rates as may be disclosed by each quarterly meter reading. - —In respect of nil lands and buildings to which water can be but is not supplied situate within one hundred yards from any part of the Waterworks a rate of two and one-eighth per centum (2 IS per cent) on the annual rateable value, provided that in no case shall the minimum amount of such rate be less than Five Shillings (5/). The said Rates shall be payable in each case in one sum upon the 12th d;iy of July, 15140. at the Municipal Offices. " The purport of the By-law is to provide for the following matters :— (a) Amending Section 757 of Auckland City By-law No. 1 regarding fire prevention appliances, etc., and the I attendance of firemen in respect of any building which is licensed for use as a Picture Theatre. (b) Repealing Sub-clause (d) of Section 77!) ot the Auckland City By-law No. 1, Section 5 of the Auckland City By-law No. f>, and Suction 74 of the Auckland City By-law No. 13. and enacting provision setting out license fees payable in respect of any building used for the purpose of a Picture Theatre and certain buildings and enclosures at various sports grounds.
A copy of the said Auckland City Bylaw No. 26 is deposited at the Town Clerk's Office, Town Hull, Auckland, and is available for inspection by the public during ordinary office hours. (2) IN pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by the Municipal Corporations Act 1933, the Health Act. li>2o, the Local Bodies Loans Act, 1026, the Local Government Loans Board Act. 1026, and of all other powers thereunto enabling it, the Auckland City Council doth hereby, by Special Resolution intended to operate as a Special Order, resolve to borrow the sum of TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY-ONE THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED POUNDS (£221.500) by way of Special Loan to be known as the Waterworks Development Loan. 1940 (£221,500), for the purpose of extending and improving the waterworks undertaking of the City of Auckland as follows: — (a) Provision of new feeder mains in areas where the supply of water is at present insufficient, estimated to cost £71,720 (l>) Extensions and improvements to reticulation as and where from time to time required, estimated to cost £30.000 ic) IJemodelling and additions to pumping station in Upper Symouds St., estimated to cost £2,500 i"l) Provision of a service reservoir in or near the City with a capacity of approximately 6,000.000 gallons, a storage reservoir with a capacity of approximately 1,000.000 gallons at tlie outlet of the lluia Kilter Statiou at Titirangi, and small reservoirs with a total capacity of approximately half a million gallons at outlying points, together with necessary connecting mains, estimated to cost £SO,OOO ip] Improvements to niters and installation of Venturi meters, estimated to cost £12,600 ■f) Purchase of land in or adjacent to catchment areas at Waitakere and Hunua and erection of necessary fencing, estimated to cost . £25,000 The Loan is to be raised nt n rate of interest not exceeding Four Pounds (£4) per centum per annum, for a period of twenty-live years from the date of the raising of the Loan, and the security therefor shall be a Special Kate of One anil three-tenths pence (1 ."J-lOtus d) in »ho £ on the annual value of all rateable property in the City of Auckland.
