R.N.V.R. RATINGS.
The Hon. Minister for Defence has stated that naval requirements for New Zealand are complete, and that further requirements will be taken from men now enrolled in the R.X.V.IL Thi* statement has culminated in the hopes of many trained men 'being finally disappointed. Hundreds of young men during the last 15 years of peace have voluntarily devoted their epare time and enthusiasm in training, so that they may form a useful body of men for service in the event of war. Many were successful in gaining promotions and qualifications and since the outbreak of war have made every endeavour to- participate in any capacity for naval service. During the last few months they have ; been politely informed per medium of circular that they were discharged in September last and -were free to" enrol in oithor the Air or the Military Forces. A few have been successful in obtaining commissions for naval service overseas, and we who are still behind congratulate thorn and wish them the Ixvt of luck and envy them their opportunities of proving their capabilities, and devotion to duty. Surely a body of naval reinforcements with qualifications willing to serve in any capacity would be useful in the present stage* of hostilities. GUNLAYER.
