LOWER RATIONS.

SUPPLIES OF PETROL.

ELIMINATION OF WASTE. LICENSES TO BE REVIEWED. § (From Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Sunday. A further reduction in the petrol rations for private motor car& and motor cycles, to be effective from to-morrow morning, was announced to-night by the acting-Minister of Supply, the Hon. W. Nash. The monthly allowances will now be two gallons for motor cycles, four gallons for small cars, six gallons for medium cars and eight gallons for large cars.

The reduction was made, the Minister explained, to ensure a maximum of reserves and suplies of petrol for defence, 'commercial and other purposes. For July, coupons four and five would be available for private . motoring. The rations permitted approximately 150 miles of pleasure running a month.

Mr. Nash aleo pointed out that the petrol licenses of public transport operators would be reviewed by the transport licensing authorities. All other licenses would be examined by the petrol advisory committee in each district to eliminate waste through duplication of food and other deliveries. Representatives of the industries concerned had been co-opted for service on the advisory committee.

Necessary supplies of petrol, the Minister said, would be" made available for primary industry, but he apealed to all farmers not to use any more petrol than was absolutely necessary and especially not to use farm trucks on highways in competition with public transport services; The Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, was now engaged in negotiating with petrol users, Mr. Nash concluded, and as soon as these negotiations were completed the Government would make a full statement of its policy. In the meantime, however - , motorists must save petrol or ultimately they may not be able to save any,
