EXTRA WAR WORK.
MR. JUSTICE NORTHCROFT
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Sunday. Mr. Justice Xorthcroft is to continue his judicial duties while carrying out his military work as district artillery officer for the southern military district. The Attorney-General, the Hon. H. G. R. Mason, explained to-day that the appointment arose from the need in the Canterbury district of an artillery officer with special qualifications and experience for instructional work. It was felt by Mr. Justice Northcroft and approved by ihe Attorney-General that because of the urgent need arising out of the oresent wav for all to perform more than lorroal duties hie Honor might undertake this additional war work.
Engines from the city and western districts fire stations attended an outbreak of fire in a dwelling in Pole Street, Ponsonby, shortly after eight o'clock on Saturday night. Two rooms were damaged by the flames and other rooms in the building were affected by heat and smoke. The occupier of the house was Mr. N. .M.. Gimm.
