INCREASE IN ENTRIES.

PROFITS FOR WOUNDED SOLDIERS. ROTORUA, Wednesday. The eighteenth annual exhibition of the Rotorua A. and P. Association opened today aud will continue until Saturday. An all-round increase in entries, with the exception ot the baking section, was recorded, tlie largest increase being in the garden and home industries sections. Needlework and jams and preserves were particularly well supported and provided a most attractive display. Once again the lielde and- field root sections furnished striking evidence of the tertility and expanding development of the pumice lands. The show was officially opened by the Mayor of Rotorua Mr. T Jackson and the president of the Rotorua A. and P. Association, Mr. J. H. HerrolU. The association has agreed to donate the whole of its profits to the sick, wounded and distress fund. One of the most interesting sections of the show is a display of valuable Maori mats carving and tariko work arranired hv the Arawa Maori Returned Soldiers 1 League Xhis included some extremely valuableof feather mats. All have been lent by Maori residents of the district aud they provide an exhibition which to-day could uardly be assembled outeide the lariru museums, ilaori weavers associated with the stall are giving demonstrations of Maori arts and craft work. One of the largest sections of the show s the poultry division, for which entries have been received from all parte of the -North Island. The Rotorua Association's poultry show thia year decided three North Island championships. These chamnionshin i awards were :—Standard Black Orpington, W. Hanham; Utility Black Orpington J A Annan (best bird in show); Black Pekin bantam, C. GatfieM.
