OBITUARY.

CAPTAIN W. 3. MASON. For many years well known as master of ships of' the Port Line's fleet visiting the Dominion, Captain William Surman Maspu, D.S.C., has died in England. Captain Mason was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his services during an action in the Great War. He was in command of the Port Curtiswhen it was attacked by a German submarine during- a run from South America to France. The Port Curtis fought for two hours, although greatly outranged, until finally Captain Mason and the crew, some of them wounded", took' to the boats and eventually reached France. Captain Mason, who retired about seven years ago, had since made several pleasure trips to the Dominion.
